New provision – July 2023
The Registry .cy informs that the payment process for domain name registrations has changed, in accordance with a new provision in our Decree 296/2022.
More specifically, to submit a new application/request for domain name registration, the relevant fee (which is according to the registration period chosen by the user) will be first placed on hold from the user’s credit card account.
Upon evaluation of the application/request by the Registry .cy, the hold amount:
- will be deducted from the user’s credit card account and payment will be completed, in the case of application/request approval
- will be released back to the user’s credit card account, in the case of application/request rejection or cancellation

Two new provisions – March 2022
Change of domain name ownership
The owner of a domain name has now the option to submit a “Change of Ownership” request. The request will be evaluated and after approval, the NEW OWNER / REGISTRANT will have to pay the €10,00 “change of ownership” fee.
The domain name expiry date is transferred from the old owner/registrant to the new owner/registrant.

Change of domain names registration period
The license for all new domain name registrations is valid for either 1, 2, or 5 calendar years.
For instance, a domain name registered on March 9, 2022 with a one-year license, will expire on March 9, 2023 and not on December 31, 2022 as was the license period until recently.
